Calgary Stampede
What: Yeeha! — The ‘greatest show on earth’ the world famous Calgary stampede celebrates the best of the Rodeo and mid-western life, with a 10-day spectacular featuring the best of rodeo events, musical performances, workshops, chuckwagon races, shows and parades, with the city of Calgary coming alive to celebrate, educate and share its culture and heritage with the world.
Kicking off each day with a Pancake breakfast, which has become a local institution during the stampede, the one million people who attend the stampede get to enjoy both the famous fantastic food (most of which is deep-fried) and enjoy a showcase event in the evening which features both the best of rodeo athletes and an extravagantly long firework show – with the stampede having evolved from its beginnings in 1912 to incorporate the modern day balance of the needs of animal welfare’s and to reflect the diversity of Calgary with the desire to celebrate the ‘old west’ – allowing everyone to enjoy and unleash their inner cowboy or cowgirl.
When: The festival begins on the first Friday of July each year and lasts for exactly 10 days.
Where: The Stampede takes place at the aptly named Stampede Park in Calgary Canada, which is easily accessible by public transport or walking from the downtown Calgary area – with the numerous outdoor shows, fairground rides and stands all set up within the confines of the park.
Duration: The festival lasts for 10 days, with each day beginning with a pancake breakfast and having dedicated shows, music and rodeos to enjoy, before the grand finale of the evening show and a massive firework display.
