What: Embrac­ing everyone’s inner Geek, the tele­vi­sion, film, and com­ic book extrav­a­gan­za of Com­ic-Con, allows fans to not just meet and greet their heroes, but also learn the lat­est updates from Hol­ly­wood and dis­cov­er the inside infor­ma­tion about how cin­e­mat­ic mas­ter­pieces and icon­ic com­ic books are cre­at­ed. 

Attend­ed by hun­dreds and thou­sands of peo­ple each year, the event has become renowned with cos­play – the act as dress­ing up as your favourite tv star, com­ic book char­ac­ter or hero – and fea­tures not just the pan­els of actors, but over the course of it’s four day run pop-up cinema’s show­ing the clas­sic, cos­tume com­pe­ti­tions, media events for fans and the chance to trade or pur­chase film, tele­vi­sion or com­ic book mem­o­rable col­lec­tables or sou­venirs – as the action packed world or both comes and Hol­ly­wood is bought to life.

When: Com­ic con is held annu­al­ly each year in the sum­mer – in the months of July or August, with the exact dates vary­ing each year but usu­al­ly tak­ing place over the last week­end of July.

Where: While Com­ic-Con events take place all over the world, San Diego is home to both the orig­i­nal and the best event. For those lucky enough to score entry badges, the event booths and pan­els take place in San Diego Con­ven­tion hall, with those with­out still find­ing a range of pop-up cin­e­mas, muse­ums and activ­i­ties in the streets and parks next to the con­ven­tion cen­tre.

Dura­tion: Com­ic con lasts four days, with entry to the con­ven­tion hall allowed from 9:30 am to close of play each night which is usu­al­ly 5:30pm – with the free events out­side the con­ven­tion cen­tre last­ing into the late evening.

Tick­ets:  The tick­et­ing process for com­ic-con is a lot­tery as hun­dreds of thou­sands apply for tick­ets. For those wish­ing to attend you must reg­is­ter at the offi­cial com­ic con web­site [https://www.comic-con.org/cci/2020/athome] and keep a sharp eye on announce­ments of tick­et sales on the web­site, with tick­ets start­ing at $69 for a Thurs­day, Fri­day, or Sat­ur­day pass and $47 for a Sun­day badge or avail­able for a bun­dle at $250 and lim­it­ed to 3 per per­son. Be warned as well that if you live out­side the USA, the first tase of Com­ic-con queu­ing will be when you pick up your tick­ets with lines form­ing round the block at the tick­ets offices in the days lead­ing up to com­ic con.

Need to Know: Expect queu­ing – lost of it. For all its pro’s com­ic con is not as well organ­ised as it could be, espe­cial­ly when it comes to the pan­el events with the stars, oper­at­ing a one in one out pol­i­cy and any­one leav­ing head­ing to the back of the line.

There’s also a lack of healthy meals and some­times access to water – espe­cial­ly when in the pan­el rooms, so it’s advised to check the sched­ule pick your events and bring every­thing nec­es­sary with you for the dura­tion of the day.
