Honen Festival

What: The ‘Penis Fes­ti­val,’ Japan’s Honen Mat­suri fes­ti­val, held in the small town of Koma­ki, has been cel­e­brat­ed for the last 1500 years and seeks to bring a good har­vest and for those that wish for it fer­til­i­ty — with the good wish­es sum­moned through the parad­ing of a giant wood­en 400kg Penis, carved from a cyprees tree, through the streets of Kama­ki and then cli­max­ing with a spin around the Taga­ta jin­ja shrine.

For those that observe the fes­ti­val free sake and penis shaped food, lol­lies, cakes and cook­ies are hand­ed out by phal­lus- tot­ing females along the parade route and there is the chance to buy Penis shaped
mer­chan­dise – mak­ing for an unfor­get­table expe­ri­ence.

When:  The Honen Mat­suri fes­ti­val takes place on the 15^th of March every year, begin­ning with a bless­ing in the Taga­ta jin­ja shrine at 9am.

Where: The fes­ti­val takes place at the Taga­ta Jin­ja shrine in the small city of Koma­ki which is locat­ed north of Nagoya City, once there seek out the shrine and the Penis fes­ti­val site.

Dura­tion: Honen Mat­suri lasts for one day and begins at 9am with a bless­ing in the Taga­ta jin­ja shrine, the penis parade takes place in the road lead­ing to the shrine and typ­i­cal­ly starts between 2–3 PM – giv­ing a good amount of time to enjoy all the penis relat­ed activ­i­ties in the fes­ti­val site.

Tick­ets: Entrance is free for the parade and fes­ti­val – along with free sake, expect to pay for any Penis relat­ed goods or Food though.
