What: The ‘Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ and unquestionable to most important and prestigious event of the IndyCar calendar, the Indianapolis 500 sees 33 starters in “Indy Cars” race at speeds of 240 Miles per hours over 500 miles and 200 laps of Indiana’s Motor Speedway stadium to be crowned not just the greatest Indy Racer, but also receive a $2.5 million cash price and receive and be doused in a complimentary bottle of milk.
Part of the Triple Crown of Motorsport (alongside the Monaco grand prix and the 24 hours of le mans) the Indy 500 is stepped in tradition, with the race beginning with a rendition of the local favourite “Back Home Again in Indiana” the traditional release of red, white and blue balloons at the race start and, alongside the awarding of Milk to the winner, the presenting of the famous Borg-Warner Trophy to the driver that both survives and completes the course in the fastest time.
When: The race takes place annually, traditionally held on the last weekend of August, although dates do vary.
Where: The Indianapolis 500 is held unsurprisingly in the town of Indianapolis, in the United States of America, with the event taking place at the 2.5 mile oval circuit of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Duration: Race day kicks off at 1pm, with spectators normally indulging in American Cuisine in the surrounding area in the hours beforehand, with the race lasting for approximately 3 hours – give or take allowing for incidents.

With tickets for the day of the race in general admission costing $40, tickets for reserved seats (Recommended) costing $60 to $135, and tickets to the snack pit, which is a party-like standing are costing $90.
Need to Know: Alongside being prepared for a long race, the Indy 500 can be a dangerous event especially for those in the snake pit of general admission with parts of the cars and especially tires known to fly into spectators, with 10 audience members having been killed so far watching the INDY 500.
