What:  The best of British horse rac­ing, Roy­al Ascot com­bines British civil­i­ty and ele­gance with the excite­ment of Horse Rac­ing as the famous race course plays host to 36 races spread over 5 days as the best hors­es in the world com­pete for over £8 mil­lion in prize mon­ey in the famed King George VI, Queen Eliz­a­beth races and the prized roy­al Ascot gold Cup.

 Com­bined with this are the strict dress code, which requires every­one to look their best, the dai­ly roy­al pro­ces­sion and singing of the British ‘God Save the Queen’ nation­al anthem as the roy­al fam­i­ly enters the are­na which begins each race day, and the tra­di­tion­al par­tak­ing in gam­bling and cham­pagne which helps to make Roy­al Ascot races one of Britain’s and the world’s favourite rac­ing events. 

When:  The Roy­al Ascot races take place for 5 days begin­ning on a Tues­day in the mid­dle of June.

Where: The Roy­al Ascot race­course is based in Ascot, near Wind­sor and is acces­si­ble by pub­lic trans­port from Lon­don.

Dura­tion: The races at Roy­al Ascot last for 5 days, with each day hav­ing a cel­e­brat­ed theme. The roy­al pro­ces­sion, which sees the singing of the nation­al anthem and the entrance of the roy­al fam­i­ly, takes place at 2pm each day, with the first race start­ing at 2:30pm and the last race at 5:35pm, with the day fin­ish­ing with anoth­er sing-a-long of the nation­al anthem.

Tick­ets:  Tick­ets for both the pad­docks and seats are avail­able at https://tickets.ascot.co.uk/connect/Webpages/Ascot/WhatsOn.aspx with tick­et prices cost­ing between £25 to £85 – although tick­ets to the Roy­al Enclo­sure are unfor­tu­nate­ly strict­ly lim­it­ed (you need to be vouched for by a Roy­al or occu­pant) so unfor­tu­nate­ly a chat with the Queen is off lim­its.

Need to Know: The dress code is strict­ly enforced with spec­ta­tors required to be dressed in their best or risk­ing refus­ing entry and it’s advised that if attend­ing in the pad­docks to arrive ear­ly to secure a good spot.
