What: The biggest watched single-day sporting even in the world, the Super Bowl is the winner take all culmination of the National Football League (NFL), as at the end of a gruelling season of American Football two of the 32 competing teams, from the two sixteen team conferences battle it out to be crowned the national NFL champions and lift the famous Lombardi trophy.
The final always takes place on ‘Superbowl Sunday’ with Americans dedicating an entire day to tune in and watch both the game and the pomp surrounding it, with the high viewing figures (more than 100 million viewers spread across 170 countries) for the game also making companies compete to create the most unique and captivating advertisement spots, with many people tuning in not just for the game, but to watch some of the 30 second commercials which sell for upwards of $5 million. Which combined with the famous half-time Super Bowl shows, featuring either rock legends or the latest pop icon, which is now more memorable than the game itself helps add to the Superbowl experience, as families around the world gather in pubs, homes and stadiums to take in both the greatest game and spectacle the US has to offer.
When: Though the date and location for the Super Bowl changes every year, Superbowl Sunday typically takes place in an early February Sunday, with the kick-off taking place at 6:30 p.m. ET and the build up for the game starting from the days before.

Duration: The overall Superbowl lasts for around four hours, with the game lasting about 3 hours and the extra hour added on to account for the extra advertising and the half time show. The build up to the game kicks in properly in the days before, and the entire day is dedicated to both enjoying the game and feasting on traditional American snacks and food.
Tickets: Tickets for the Super Bowl are almost impossible to get first-hand, with the majority going to sponsors and families and friends of players. If wishing to attend the Super Bowl the best option for regular fans is to try the secondary market (ticket master, stub hub etc), with tickets starting at $4000 and going all to way up to some $40,000 depending on location, although tickets tend to decrease in price the closer to the game.

Need to Know: Expect a lot of America to close early or shut down for the game – with the exception of pubs and shops. It’s also advised that if you’re in America and planning to host friends or family to plan and get you food in advance to avoid either delays or stocks being depleted – as some 1.3 billion chicken wings are consumed during the Super Bowl alone.
