World Bog Snorkeling Challenge
What: Conceived like all great ideas in a small country pub, the World bog snorkelling challenge sees brave and barmy competitors required to snorkel two lengths of the 55m welsh bog, often while wearing fancy dress, with the world record for completing the course currently set at 1 min 22 seconds.
For those fancying even more time in the bog, there’s the option to do a bike ride through the bog, or a choice of two bog triathlons, one featuring an 8 mile dip run, 12 mile bike ride and 60-metre in the bog, or a shorter 3 mile and 6 mile event. With all profits donated to local causes, food and drink on sale, live music and an obligatory bouncy castle, the world bog snorkelling championships is a great day out for a great cause.
When: The Bog snorkelling challenge in Wales takes place on the U.K. August Bank holiday – which is usually on the last few days of August.
Where: The Bog snorkelling challenge takes place at Waen Rhydd bog, Llanwrtyd Wells in Mid Wales. With a shuttle bus and sign posts showing the way from Llanwrtyd Wells town square.
Duration: The races being at 10am, with the current world record for completing the course being 1 minute, 22 seconds. Expect the events to last into the late afternoon as some 150 participants clear the course, after which a trip to the pub is recommended (after changing).
Tickets: The world bog snorkelling competition free to watch, with individuals wishing to enter the snorkelling competition able to register online at (https://www.green-events.co.uk/?wbs_main) up[ to seven days in advance or pay on the day, with each adult entry costing 15 pounds and children between the ages of 14–16 costing 12 pounds, all proceeds are then donated to a local cause.
Need to Know: Fancy dress is strongly encouraged, with the more bizarre the better ! and also be prepared for autumn British weather.
