World Sacred Spirit Festival
What: Set amongst the majestic and candle lit Nagaur and Mehrangarh Forts, the world sacred spirit festival is not only one of the worlds leading folk festivals and a showcase of some of the worlds greatest artists, but a spiritual, enlightening and awakening festival.
Taking place over the course of seven days (with three at the exclusive Nagaur fort and the next four at the more open Mehrangarh Fort) the festival begins each day with a morning tradition of devotional songs within the fort, before a series of music, dances, poetry and religious performances take place in concert venues or by the forts serene lakes featuring 100 artists from over 40 countries, including mainstream international artists, before each day of the festival concludes with a spiritual midnight electric performance held again within the fort.
But what makes this festival so special is its setting, with the two forts of Nagaur and Mehrangarh bought to life and offering an intimate and inner environment to experience and explore one of the worlds greatest, oldest and surreal cultures and experiences — which combined with the soulful music, fascinating performance and exquisite food, helps you re-connect to both bygone and new cultures and your spiritual self.
When: The festival lasts for a full week taking place over the course of a week in the middle of February — with the first three days being held at Nagaur and the next four days held in Mehrangarh Fort.
Where: The festival takes place in two locations, the first being in the forts of Nagaur and the second being in the Jodhpur at the Mehrangarh Fort.
For the first three days at Nagaur fort – the event is incredibly exclusive and is only open to individuals who are camping or living within the fort, for the next four days at Mehrangarh Fort the event is much more open and see’s tourists from around the world coming to enjoy both the fantastic scenery of the fort and the festival itself.
With each day in Mehrangarh Fort beginning with the sunrise performances being held at the Jaswanth Thada Temple, before a series of breakout session take place at venues close to the fort before it’s back to the fort for an evening performance held at the forts lakes and a midnight performance held on the fort embankment.
Duration: The exact duration of the festival can vary, however typically it lasts for seven days with each day following a similar format and beginning with the morning performance which kicks off at 7am to coincide with sunrise which lasts until 9am.
This will then be followed by a series of smaller concerts showcasing the best of cultures and music from across the globe held at venues outside the fort and lasting all the way to dusk, at which point a more intimate and spiritual performances take place down by the lakes of the fort (approximately 7pm – 9pm).
From here further concerts will take place next to the fort until the day concludes with a stunning midnight performance on the embankments of the fort which lasts from midnight till approximately 1am.

It’s advised to centre your booking and planning around the event in in Jodhpur at the Mehrangarh fort, and especially make trips to the sunrise, sunset and midnight performances for a truly magical and spiritual experience.
Need to Know: For the best and most spiritual experience, it’s recommended to spend at least one full day at the festival, to experience a dawn and midnight concert – and enjoy the variety of artists that are on offer over a single day.
It’s also recommended to allow yourself an extra few days in Jodhpur to experience the atmosphere and take in all the sites, forts and lakes that the fantastic city has to offer.
